Transition Master

Transition Masters? Huh? What?

Perhaps you have looked at TikTok. By mentioning TikTok, this does not mean that we are recommending it or suggesting that you do look it up and sign up. This service, especially, due to the nature of people making short videos for people to view has fueled a new breed of videographer. Basically, it has helped people who wouldn’t otherwise be video creators to create very short videos while thinking about fx.

The way we transition between shots can really add a bunch of punch to a video. Not only is it cool, it can also be an effective storytelling telling tool. There are people who aim to show you how to create new transitions in your videos. Check out TikToker @oddanny with some transition tutorials.

Also, check out this video created by a videographer who travelled Turkey for a year and created this amazing video. There are many neat ways to transition shots. This video is, of course, a professionally made video.

So, what am I to do?

Try creating some transitions or reproduce a whole bunch. Create a video around the house, outside in the backyard, on the street (being socially distant of course). Try to make a 45-60 second video that incorporates 6-8 different transitions like the ones from the TikTok videos (above) or the Turkey video.

Required Tools / Equipment

A phone or a camera.Video editing app for phone: iMovie is free. TikTok (the app alone is a decent video editing app) and it is free.
*You could modify this project to be a bunch of different videos (not all put into one).

Requirements

  • Create the video and piece together your transitions.

  • Aim for 45-60 seconds.

  • Try to find a way to connect them? Is it all about a walk that you are on and each transition happens along your walk?

  • Upload to Google Drive and share with Mr Moccio
