BROADWAY / MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE
There are MANY musicals out there to choose from! This list is NOT the only list to choose from. Therefore, most likely, there is a musical that will appeal to you.
F.A.Q.
Does a Disney film count?
In short, no. There are a few Disney films that were turned into Broadway musicals and therefore, those songs are appropriate for this performance.
Do I have to act out the song?
In short, no. BUT! You may act it out if you like. In fact, putting a little bit of “character” in your performance could be a great challenge for you to not only get the words and melody down, but it may be good for you to learn a little bit of characterization in your quest to perform more confidently. Sometimes, we don’t grow without a little risk!
Does it have to be a current Broadway musical?
Certainly not! You will notice that there are many musicals listed below. Many of them were once on Broadway but not anymore. Others are current and are still being staged in New York, Toronto or other major cities.

YOUR TASK!
Pick a song from a musical. (It does not have to be one of the musicals listed above).
Find an accompaniment you like - whether you play for yourself, have someone play for you or use an instrumental track on YouTube.
If the track is too low or too high, try searching something like: “Song Title Lower key” or “Song Title Higher key”… or even, “Song Title Female Key” if you are doing a song sung by a male character.Once you have settled on your song, do some research about the musical. You must present the following information as an introduction to your song:
A brief synopsis of the story of the musical. For example, This is a musical about a kid named Evan who struggles with friendships and feels like he the only way he can fit in is to live a complete lie that helps him gain popularity.
A brief summary of the context of the song. For example: The character, Evan, since this song “Forever” when he is with his friend’s parents and they are asking him questions about his friendship with their son. He makes up this entire fake story about a wonderful day when they were hanging out.
Something you like about the song… For exemple, "I really like the message in the lyrics of this song”. Or… ‘This melody is very beautiful and I love to sing along with it”
Practice the song and perform!
